Eight reasons · no countdown clocks

If we cannot explain it, it is not an offer.

Every one of these has a mechanism behind it — a real reason the number comes down, drawn out step by step on its own page. Where there is no mechanism there is no offer, only a price somebody raised first so they could lower it in front of you.

Eight offers, and the reason each one exists.

Read the mechanism line on each card before the offer itself. If it does not make sense to you, the offer is not for you — and two of these genuinely are not discounts at all, they are better ways to build the trip.

Booking lead timeNew

The Early Window

Confirm early and we pass the camps’ own early rate straight on — nothing added, nothing invented.

The mechanismCamps discount confirmed bookings because an early confirmation de-risks their season. How it works →
Inside six weeksNew

Short Notice

Space that has just opened, at what it actually costs us — if you can go when it is free.

The mechanismA camp recovers more from a discounted bed than an empty one, because the cost is already spent. How it works →
Within a year of the weddingNew

The Honeymoon Journey

Quiet camps, a private crater lodge, and a stretch of Pemba — built as one route, not three bookings.

The mechanismCamps publish honeymoon rates; the bigger gain is a route built for two people who want to be left alone. How it works →
Before the new rate list

Season Ahead

Lock next year’s trip at this year’s camp rates — and see exactly what we cannot lock.

The mechanismCamps publish new tariffs on a fixed date; booking before it holds the old list for travel after it.How it works →
Fewer places, more nights

The Long Route

Stay longer in fewer places and the per-night cost falls — here is the arithmetic, line by line.

The mechanismTransfers, gate fees and vehicle days are per move, not per night. Fewer moves, lower total. How it works →
Selected departures

Travelling Alone

No single supplement on selected departures — and a plain explanation of why it exists at all.

The mechanismA camp charges a single supplement to recover an unsold half-tent. Fill the camp and it can be waived. How it works →
Built around the ages

The Whole Family

Shorter drives, family tents, guides who like questions — and what actually changes at each age.

The mechanismFamily tents and child rates exist, but the saving that matters is not paying for days nobody enjoys. How it works →
A journey, not a voucher

A Gift of Tanzania

A journey given, rather than a voucher sent — no expiry, and refundable if it is never taken.

The mechanismA funded journey rather than a voucher: no expiry, and the balance stays theirs. How it works →

What you will not find on this site.

These are the standard tools of travel marketing. They work, which is why they are everywhere. We have left them out on purpose, and it is fair to hold us to that.

Not here

Countdown clocks

A timer that resets when you reload is not a deadline, it is a pressure device. Where a real deadline exists — a camp’s rate switching on a stated date — we will give you the date and you can check it.

Not here

Invented scarcity

No “two rooms left” unless there are two rooms left, in which case we will say which camp and you can ring them. Availability on safari is genuinely tight in peak months; that is exactly why it should not be faked.

Not here

A rack rate to strike through

The oldest one. Publish a number nobody pays, then show it crossed out. Every price on this site is a real price, and every offer is a reduction from that rather than from a fiction.

Never

Park fees folded into one total

TANAPA sets those and can change them. Burying them in a package number lets an operator absorb a rise quietly or pocket a fall. They stay on their own line, always, on every quote we send.

The one that is hardest to resist

Discounting to win a booking we should not have. The most profitable thing a tour operator can do is agree with you. If you ask us to make a trip cheaper and the honest answer is that the trip is wrong — too many parks, too few nights, the wrong month — we will say that first and quote second. It costs us bookings. It is the only version of this business worth running.

Do they stack?

Some do, some cannot, and the reason is always whether the two mechanisms are pulling on the same money. Here is the honest version rather than the useful-to-us one.

These combine

  • The Early Window + Season AheadDifferent mechanisms — one is the camp’s early rate, the other is the tariff period. Where both apply we apply both.
  • The Long Route + almost anythingRemoving a move is a change to the itinerary, not a discount, so it does not compete with a rate offer.
  • The Whole Family + The Long RouteThe strongest pairing on this page, and the one we recommend most often to families.
  • A Gift of Tanzania + whatever is running when they travelThe credit is money; it does not lock them out of anything.

These do not

  • Short Notice + The Early WindowThey are opposite ends of the same market. You cannot book eleven months early and three weeks late.
  • Travelling Alone + a private vehicleThe waiver depends on the set departure filling. Take the vehicle privately and the mechanism is gone.
  • Two rate offers at one campCamps apply one rate. If two could apply, they choose, and we will tell you which they chose and why.
  • Anything + park feesNothing discounts them. Any operator implying otherwise is moving the cost somewhere you are not looking.

Tell us which one fits.

Or describe the trip and let us work it out — the offer that applies is usually decided by your dates rather than by preference. If none of them fit yours, we will tell you that rather than stretch one to look like it does.
