Offer · Giving a trip

A voucher expires. A journey does not.

Gift cards are designed to be forgotten — that is where the margin is. This is the opposite: you fund a trip, we plan it with the person receiving it, and if they never travel you get the money back. There is no expiry date because there is nothing in it for us if there were.

01

Why this one costs less.

Every offer on this site has to survive being drawn as a chain. If it cannot, it is not an offer — it is a discount off a price somebody inflated first.

You fund it

A sum, or a specific trip

Either “this itinerary, paid for” or a contribution towards one they will help shape. Both work; the second is usually the better gift.

We hold it against their name

Not against a date

It sits as a credit on a named booking file. No clock, no diminishing balance, no monthly fee eating it — the practices that make gift cards profitable are the reason we do not sell one.

They plan it with us

When they are ready

They talk to the same planner you did. If the trip costs more they pay the difference; if it costs less the balance stays theirs.

02

Three parties, and where the money actually sits.

Worth being explicit about, because “gift” and “travel company holding your money” is a combination that deserves scrutiny rather than trust.

The giver

You

You decide the amount or the trip, and whether it is a surprise. You get a document to give them — a real one, on paper, not an emailed code. After that you can step back entirely, or stay involved in the planning if the gift is from several people.

The holder

Us

We hold it as a credit against a named file. It does not expire, it is not reduced by fees, and it is not spent until they confirm an itinerary. If they ask what the balance is, we tell them.

The traveller

Them

They contact us when they are ready — next season or in three years. They shape the trip with a planner. They top up if they want more than the gift covers, and they keep the difference if they want less.

What happens if they never go

They can have it back. If the trip is never taken, the credit is refundable to whoever paid it, less anything already committed on their behalf — a deposit placed with a camp at their instruction, for example. We will not keep money for a trip that did not happen.

It can be transferred. To a partner, a sibling, or a different trip entirely. It is a credit against a name, and names can change by asking.

What it is not: it is not a financial product, it does not earn interest, and it is not protected in the way a bank deposit is. If you are giving a large sum, ask us exactly how it is held and we will tell you in writing. You should ask that of anyone.

03

Is it for you?

We would rather lose the booking than sell you the wrong offer, because the wrong offer usually means the wrong trip.

Yes, if
  • You want to give something that is remembered, to someone at a birthday, retirement or anniversary.
  • Several of you want to contribute to one large gift rather than several small ones.
  • The recipient would enjoy planning it. For a lot of people that is half the present.
  • You want no expiry date and no fine print, which is the whole point of doing it this way.
Probably not, if
  • You need it to arrive tomorrow. This takes a conversation, not a checkout.
  • The recipient may not want to travel, or cannot. A trip is a wonderful gift and a poor obligation.
  • You want the surprise to include the dates. Fixing dates for someone else rarely survives contact with their calendar — give the journey and let them choose when.
04

How to take it.

Tell us who it is for and roughly what you have in mind

An amount, or a trip. We will tell you honestly what each would buy.

We prepare something you can actually hand over

A printed itinerary or a letter of credit in their name, with our contact details. Not a code in an email.

They call us when they are ready

Whenever that is. The credit is waiting and it is still worth what you paid.

05

Questions we get asked.

Is there really no expiry?

None. An expiry date exists to convert unredeemed vouchers into revenue, and we would rather not have that income than build a product that depends on people forgetting.

Can I give part of a trip?

Yes, and it is common — the balloon flight, the internal flights, or a named number of nights. It sits as a credit exactly the same way and they build the rest around it.

Can several people contribute?

Yes. We will hold contributions against one file and tell you the running total. It is the easiest way to handle a significant birthday.

What if prices rise before they travel?

The credit is a sum of money, not a locked itinerary, so a trip in three years will be priced then. If you would rather fix the trip itself, we can book and hold a specific itinerary instead — ask and we will explain the difference.

Can it be a surprise?

Completely. We will not contact them until you say so, and we will follow whatever story you want us to tell when they do get in touch.

Tell us who it is for.

A rough amount and a little about them is enough to start. We will tell you what it would buy and prepare something worth handing over.
