An empty tent earns nothing.

A camp with an unsold room three weeks out has already paid for the staff, the food run and the generator. One more guest costs them very little, and nothing at all is the worst outcome. That is the entire mechanism — and it only works if you can take what is actually open.

01

Why this one costs less.

Every offer on this site has to survive being drawn as a chain. If it cannot, it is not an offer — it is a discount off a price somebody inflated first.

Something opens

A booking falls through

A cancellation, a group that shrank, a camp that opened a new tent late. It happens constantly and almost none of it is ever advertised.

The camp does the sum

Half a rate beats no rate

The staff are hired, the food is bought, the vehicle is going out anyway. Below a certain lead time the camp is better off filling the bed at a reduced rate than holding out.

We move fast

And so must you

These do not sit around. We hold what opens for a day or two at most, which is why this offer works for people who can decide quickly and not for anyone who needs a fortnight to think.

02

Three gates. Miss one and this is not for you.

We would rather you self-selected out here than spent a week discovering it. All three have to be yes.

01

Can you travel inside about six weeks?

That is the window where camps start releasing space. Sometimes it stretches to eight, occasionally it is ten days. If your leave has to be booked three months ahead, this offer cannot reach you.

If no: The Early Window is the offer that fits you, and it is the better one anyway.
02

Can your dates move by a few days?

The space that opens is a specific room in a specific camp on specific nights. Flexibility of even three or four days multiplies what we can build around it enormously.

If no: we can still look, but be prepared for very little to come back.
03

Can you take what is open rather than what you pictured?

You are working from availability backwards. It may be the southern parks rather than the Serengeti, or a camp you had not heard of, or a route in the opposite direction. The trips are frequently better. They are rarely the ones people had in mind.

If no: pay standard rates and choose properly. There is no shame in it and it is what most people should do.
The part that actually catches people

Flights are the problem, not the camps. International fares generally rise as you approach departure, and they can rise by more than the camp saving. We will always tell you the two numbers side by side before you commit, because a cheap safari on an expensive flight is not a cheap trip.

Park fees do not discount. Ever. Whatever a camp does with its rate, TANAPA charges the same per person per twenty-four hours. On a short trip that is a large and completely fixed part of the total.

Visas, vaccinations and passport validity take time. Yellow fever certification, if your route requires it, needs ten days to be valid. Check before you fall in love with a departure date.

03

Is it for you?

We would rather lose the booking than sell you the wrong offer, because the wrong offer usually means the wrong trip.

Yes, if
  • You can genuinely leave within a month or two and your dates are yours to choose.
  • You have been to Tanzania before and do not need the famous names.
  • You are open to the southern or western parks, where space stays available far longer.
  • You can decide inside a couple of days when something comes back.
Probably not, if
  • This is your one big trip and you have pictured it for years. Book it properly.
  • You are travelling in peak season to the northern circuit. Very little opens up, and what does goes in hours.
  • You need particular flights, particular seats or particular dates.
  • A fast decision under time pressure is exactly how you make a choice you regret.

How to take it.

Tell us your window and what you will not compromise on

Earliest and latest date, how many nights, and the one or two things that actually matter to you.

We watch, and we come back only when something real appears

No newsletter, no drip of near-misses. You hear from us when there is space we would book ourselves.

You decide quickly, and we hold it

Usually a day or two. If the answer is no, that is completely fine and we keep looking.

05

Questions we get asked.

How much less does it actually cost?

It varies by camp, by season and by how close to departure we are, and any operator quoting you a fixed percentage is making it up. What we can promise is that the camp’s number goes on your itinerary as the camp’s number, and you can see the park fees separately.

Do you have a list I can look at?

No, and be wary of anyone who does. Real short-notice space appears and disappears within days. A permanent page of last-minute deals is a page of prices, not a page of availability.

Is the camp worse because it is discounted?

No. It is the same camp, the same tent and the same guide. The only thing that has changed is how close to the date it is and how much the camp stands to lose by leaving it empty.

Can I combine this with a beach week?

Often yes, and Zanzibar, Pemba and Mafia hold availability much later than the parks do. It is one of the easier things to add at short notice.
