Camps price risk. Remove it and they charge less.

An unsold bed in eleven months’ time is a camp’s problem, not yours — until they price it. Confirm early and most camps release a lower rate of their own, because a confirmed booking is worth more to them than an empty one at full price. We pass that through.

Why this one costs less.

Every offer on this site has to survive being drawn as a chain. If it cannot, it is not an offer — it is a discount off a price somebody inflated first.

A signed itinerary and a deposit, typically nine to twelve months before you travel, rather than an enquiry that may or may not become a booking.

The camp responds

Their season stops being a guess

Camps run on occupancy. A confirmed booking months out lets them plan staff, supply runs and their own buying, and the value of that is real enough that most publish a rate for it.

At what they charge us

The early rate is the camp’s, not ours. It goes onto your itinerary as the camp’s number. We do not mark it up and then discount it back.

What actually opens up, and when.

The saving is only half of it. The other half is that the camps worth staying in have very few rooms, and the good months sell in order.

12–9 months

Everything is open. Every camp, every room type, the tents with the view. This is the only point at which you genuinely choose rather than take what is left.

9–6 months

Early rates are still widely published. The best-known camps in the peak months start closing out, and the migration weeks in the north go first.

6–3 months

Rates return to standard at most properties. You can still build a very good trip; you are now working around what is available rather than what you would pick.

Inside 3 months

Peak season is largely gone. Green season and the southern parks stay open much longer, and this is where Short Notice takes over.

What the early rate cannot hold

Park fees are set by the government, not by us or the camps. TANAPA and the Ngorongoro authority publish their own tariffs and can change them, and any change applies on the day you travel rather than the day you booked. We show park fees as a separate line for exactly this reason.

An early deposit buys a rate, and it costs you flexibility. Moving dates months later is possible but not free — camps hold their own cancellation terms and those tighten as you approach. If your dates are genuinely uncertain, this is the wrong offer and we will say so.

Is it for you?

We would rather lose the booking than sell you the wrong offer, because the wrong offer usually means the wrong trip.

Yes, if
  • Your dates are fixed — school holidays, an anniversary, leave already approved.
  • You want a specific camp, or the migration in a specific month. Those sell first and no discount replaces a room that is gone.
  • You are travelling in peak season. June to October and February are where the window matters most.
  • You are a group or a family needing several rooms in the same camp.
Probably not, if
  • Your dates could still move by a month. Pay standard rates and keep the freedom; it is usually the cheaper mistake.
  • You are going in the green season to the southern parks, where availability holds much later anyway.
  • A deposit now would be difficult. Say so — there is no version of this that does not involve one.

How to take it.

Send us the dates and the shape of the trip

Even roughly. We need enough to ask camps for held space, which is what starts the clock.

We come back with an itinerary priced at early rates

Camp by camp, with the park fees shown separately so you can see what is held and what is not.

You confirm with a deposit and we take the space out of the market

From that point the camp rate on your itinerary is the rate you pay, whatever they publish later.

Questions we get asked.

How far ahead is far enough?

Nine to twelve months is where it bites for peak season. Six months still helps at many camps. Inside three months for June to October you are usually past it, and we would point you at short-notice space instead.

Is the saving worth committing that early?

Honestly, the rate is the smaller half. The bigger half is that you get the camp you actually want. In peak months the difference between booking in January and booking in May is not a percentage, it is whether the room exists.

What if I have to cancel?

The camps’ cancellation terms apply and they are theirs, not ours — we will put them in front of you in plain language before you pay anything. Travel insurance from the day you deposit is not optional advice.

Can I change one camp later?

Usually yes, if there is space. The early rate applies to the booking, so swapping one camp for another may mean the new camp’s current rate rather than its early one. We will tell you the difference before you decide.

Tell us the dates while the window is open.

Send us roughly when and roughly what, and we will come back with what is genuinely available and what it costs at early rates. If you are already too late for the window, we will say that instead of pretending.
