Its breathtaking precision for climbers is the fact that they can see all of Kilimanjaro's five regions of dense afromontane rainforest, the extensive heath and moors, and the starkly scenic arctic of the summit. Out of all the climbers, few would describe the Lemosho route as being for those who wish to acquire peace, as advanced climbers would describe the peace between the pristine and trail experience, reminiscing that taking the route is for the peace.

The meticulously planned extended itinerary for the 8-day trek is designed so that safety and success are always of utmost priority. The gradual ascent profile and several shorter hikes, along with the critical climb-hike-sleep approach, give your body the best possible chance for acclimatization. A certified mountain professional and top-notch guides supervised by a professional mountain chef, along with a team of capable porters, will lead your journey. To some, the best part is the equipment, designed for optimal safety and comfort, sustainable trekking, and quality that the best professional mountain crew and porters will ever set foot on - these sustainable trekking practices guarantee both safety and success reaching the top of Mount Kilimanjaro. The perfect itinerary is crafted for the passionate thrill seekers wanting the utmost wilderness experience.

Why this Itinerary

The 10-day Lemosho package is the best value for people wanting to get the most out of the scenery, safety, and summit success. Rather than the busy tracks, Lemosho's first days provide some wonderful special seclusion. The best approach to the Shira Plateau and all of its beautiful panoramic views is the western approach. This is also the most effective for acclimatization, leading to a summit success of greater than 90% for those well-prepared.

Completing this success was made possible as we had our pre-trek protocol that required Arusha for a couple of days of rest and preparation. This makes sure that there's no undue hurry. You have a whole day to rest from your long journey, as well as a whole day to prepare for a detailed and personalized briefing, along with a ger guide and your lead guide. This briefing is essential, and in case we start the trek on Day 3, you will have had the time to rest, so you will have the necessary energy. It is guaranteed you will also have the information and mental will needed for the hurdle. No other route in the world, when paired with a well-thought-out prep itinerary, is as reliable and authentic for a successful Kilimanjaro climb.

Day Trip

Your Kilimanjaro Tour starts once you land at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Our guide will meet you at the baggage claim area after you’ve gone through immigration and picked up your bags. Like any other day, you will spend the day relaxing and in comfort. To this end, off a private vehicle to your hotel in Arusha and nowhere else. For the rest of the day, you will be spending the maximum time possible resting and recovering, ready for the international voyage to come.

Activities: Airport reception, direct private transfer to Arusha.
Accommodation: Hotel in Arusha.
Meals: Dinner.

Today is yet another extremely important day for the purpose of our planning. After breakfast in the hotel, you will attend an intensive, private session with the head guide for Kilimanjaro. The guide will cover all of the most important topics and will instruct the whole group on the necessary actions regarding safety during the trek, day-by-day activities in the mountains, altitude sickness, and the whole course of the trek. After the briefing, the guide will check that you possess all the prescribed equipment and that your kit conforms to the necessary guidelines. It is possible to obtain any equipment you do not have, with the guide's help, during the trek. The rest of the day is slotted for relaxation and mental preparation. Every detail rests on the client's ultimate achievement, and that is how we evaluate ourselves; the entire day rests on our preparation, which is why we appreciate the client's safety above all.

Activities: In-depth trek briefing, full equipment check, and relaxation.
Accommodation: Hotel in Arusha.
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner.

After breakfast, everyone is to be ready for a 3-4 hour trip to Londorossi Gate on the western base of Kilimanjaro. Pictures don’t do the views justice, and on this drive, the scenery is simply stunning the entire way there. At the gate, the guides will sort out the necessary paperwork while porters get their gear ready. Then, everyone is to board the vehicle for a longer drive on Lemosho. The trek starts with a nice stroll through an Afromontane rainforest. It is common for this trail to be covered and a little soggy, so be on the lookout for hidden puddles. The rainforests are untouched, with a high possibility of unique flora and the rare black and white colobus monkeys. After 3-4 hours of hiking, the camp for tonight is Mti Mkubwa, which means big tree.

Hiking Time: 3-4 hours.
Distance: 6 km / 4 miles.
Altitude Gain: 530m / 1,739ft.
Zone: Rainforest.
Accommodation: Tents at Mti Mkubwa Camp.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

You will embark on a gradual climb, replacing the rainforest with the low alpine moorland. Since the trail is in the upward direction, you will notice that the trees will begin to thin. The path will lead you to a rocky ridge that is a part of the breathtaking valley on the edge of Shira Plateau. Shira Plateau lies on the edge of the first caldera of Kilimanjaro, which is the first of the three volcanic cones to collapse, while offering with Kibo’s stunning summit views. Shira 1 camp, which is a part of the plateau, will mark the end of your journey for the day.

Hiking Time: 5-6 hours.
Distance: 8 km / 5 miles.
Altitude Gain: 720m / 2,362ft.
Zone: Moorland.
Accommodation: Tents at Shira 1 Camp.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

This gentle walk across Shira Plateau helps the body to adjust to the increased altitude and is considered crucial for the day's activities. Relatively floating, flat terrain is featured on this gentle walk with slow marches to save on body stamina. Shira 2 Camp features breathtaking unobstructed views of both the Kibo Massif and the Western Breach on Shira 2 Camp after lunch. You will walk across the famous flat Shira Cathedral, a protruding and infamous buttress of rock, on the leg of the hike. You will witness the stripped-down, primal beauty of the Mountain and her geological wonders on a portion of the hike.

Hiking Time: 3-4 hours.
Distance: 7 km / 4.5 miles.
Altitude Gain: 345m / 1,132ft.
Zone: Moorland / Alpine Desert.
Accommodation: Tents at Shira 2 Camp.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Today, your trek joins with the Machame Route while you continue moving to the east. As a new altitude "hike high, sleep low" day, this one is critical for safe acclimatization. You will move forward slowly from the plateau into the more desolate alpine desert, on Lava Tower, a 90-meter-high volcanic plug. Reaching this high point of 4,640 meters is easier than staying for a duration of time, for the high altitude, the time spent has more advantages than disadvantages. After lunch near the tower, you will begin your steep descent of 680 meters from Barranco Valley. The valley, a sheltered oasis, is home to a surreal garden of giant senecio and lobelia plants, while your camp is located at the bottom of the Great Barranco Wall

Hiking Time: 6-8 hours.
Distance: 10 km / 6 miles.
Altitude Gain/Loss: +795m ascent, -680m descent.
Zone: Alpine Desert.
Accommodation: Tents at Barranco Camp.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

There's still plenty of time before the final ascent, which is why today is another acclimatization and recovery day. Don't fret, this day still comes with excitement, and the first thing on the list is ascending the Great Barranco Wall. Don't let the name fool you; it's one of the easier parts of the trip because it's non-technical, though being a bit on the rockier side, it requires the use of your hands to steady yourself. After this, your guides will take you to the top, and you will be greeted with breathtaking panoramas. Afterwards, you will be walking along multiple ridges and valleys, which give you views of Kibo's southern glaciers. After a while, you will descend to the Karanga Valley and will once again make a steep ascent to reach the Karanga Camp. Don't worry, you will be there to enjoy the hot lunch that is waiting.

Hiking Time: 3-4 hours.
Distance: 5 km / 3 miles.
Altitude Gain: 75m / 246ft.
Zone: Alpine Desert.
Accommodation: Tents at Karanga Camp.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

In the morning, have some breakfast. After that, you will be moving on to the Southern Circuit. You will be completing the last part of the Southern Circuit and will need to reach the base camp of the summit. The route to Barafu Camp is quite a bit shorter than the Southern Circuit; however, the entire Southern Circuit is quite a bit longer than Barafu Camp, and is more than a little bit uphill. The route is rather barren and somewhat of a dry, rocky, and stony desert, and is a bit of an alpine hike. The camp is considerably lower than the Barafu Camp. You will reach Barafu Camp, which translates to ice in Kiswahili, around the afternoon. The camp is on a rather high and steep rise. The setting is lacking; however, the view is quite pleasant. The rest of the day, you devote to resting, hydrating yourself, and to dinner. The dinner will be rather early. You will be all set to attempt the summit. You will be resting until your attempt, and you will need to rest to be ready for your wake-up call, which will be around midnight.

Hiking Time: 3-4 hours.
Distance: 4 km / 2.5 miles.
Altitude Gain: 605m / 1,985ft.
Zone: Alpine Desert.
Accommodation: Tents at Barafu Camp.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

The summit attempt for this trek begins just after midnight. The trek for the day begins with a hot cup of tea and a biscuit before the final ascent, with a tea time stop. This is the hardest part of the entire trek, mentally and physically. You will focus the rest of the trek with a heavy dose of willpower. The feast of headlamps is served at the beginning of the trek. The headlamps will aid in traversing the treacherous scree slopes of the Kibo zephyr. The line will move at a sluggish pace for the sake of fresh air. Stella Point allows for a brief rest at 5,739m under the rising sun for 5-7 hours of non-stop effort. You are met with the beautiful landscape of the earth's crust and glaciers as the rays exhale under the upper crust and begin to bathe it with a hue of warm amber. The trek from here is incredible; in a little over an hour, you will have the chance to make the behemoth trek to Uhuru Peak at 5,895m. There is nothing as fulfilling as having a cord with a strap and standing at the peak, the highest point in Africa. After the glory you have in the peak, you will descend with the rest of the group to Barafu Camp. There is a quick moment to gather your breath, but then it is time to head down to Mweka Cam for the final night of elevation in the rainforest. Enjoy!

Hiking Time: 11-15 hours.
Distance: 17 km / 10.5 miles (5 km ascent, 12 km descent).
Altitude Gain/Loss: +1,255m ascent, -2,795m descent.
Zone: Arctic (Summit) and Rainforest.
Accommodation: Tents at Mweka Camp.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

The last day of the month is dedicated to celebration. After breakfast, a customary mountain farewell is offered. Then, the last (and certainly not the least) part of the day: the descent, which is considerably more enjoyable than the climb. It takes 3 to 4 hours to walk through the luxuriant rain forest to Mweka Gate. There, you will be able to exit the park and receive the well-deserved and official certificate you earned from summitting Mount Kilimanjaro. A private vehicle will take you to Arusha, where you will be able to take a long-sought hot shower and enjoy a quiet evening to rest from your accomplishment. Your hotel is also in Arusha, which is a plus! After that, your expedition will have to come to an end.

Hiking Time: 3-4 hours.
Distance: 10 km / 6 miles.
Altitude Loss: 1,460m / 4,790ft.
Zone: Rainforest.
Accommodation: Hotel in Arusha.
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner.
