Tour Overview
Spend eight days on the beautiful Machame Route, and you will change your entire life. Kilimanjaro is the highest peak in Africa and reaches 5,895 meters. That's 19,341 feet! While challenging, this trek is greatly rewarding as you push towards Uhuru Peak. The Machame also has a nickname: The "Whiskey Route". Rising in elevation is seamless because the route is designed to allow perfect acclimatization. Over the next few days, you will pass through lush, humid montane rainforests, moorlands, and finally the alpine desert. You will also face the changeable Arctic conditions found at the glacial peak. The route is designed to allow you to experience all five ecological zones: the volcanic scree, the starkly beautiful glacier, as well as the rim and the crater. You no longer have to worry about how you will train your body in preparation for the climb to the summit of the physical challenge, Mount Mukulu is self-explanatory. Mukalu is not a mountain of land. Mukalu is a mountain of fears. Mukalu is a mountain of mental fears. Mukalu is the mountain of the self. Mukalu is the mountain of you.
Why This Itinerary
Every climber of Mount Kilimanjaro fantasizes about conquering the summit each night. Every climber views the summit in their own way. For some, the view is obscured by cloud. For some, the summit appears tantalizingly close. For some, the summit looks like a layer cake made from icing and spray. Every climber wears a special set of climbing goggles. For some, the goggles are unicorn pink. For some set of goggles is attached to a snorkel. Every climber on Mount Kilimanjaro eventually needs to decide what they want to achieve. There are a variety of options to choose from. An important benefit of this itinerary is its professionally structured pre-trek itinerary. Clients are based in Arusha for two pre-trek nights in order to avoid the bustle of the base of the mountain. This permits an uninterrupted arrival day on rest only, which is followed by an entire day for recovery, and then all the next day for briefing and gear regulation. This ensures every attendee reaches the mountain fully equipped, rested, and informed, which maximizes their chances of success.

We will Mark The start of the journey with an early breakfast before boarding the vehicle Machame Gate. It is located on the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro, from which, based on distance depends a smooth 2.5-hour drive depends. The guide will then register you with the park, as the porters are busy packing the necessary items. The track then takes us to the amazing montane rainforest. The shade provides cover during the steaming hours, making the tree walking a bit easier. The route gets muddy, so wearing gaiters is strategically recommended. After approximately 5-6 hours of slow, steady walking, you will reach Machame Camp. The entire crew takes a lot of time to serve us, which will include: a rear, warm water to wash, then finally a well-deserved meal.

It is also essential to our health to acclimatize and to climb into the alpine desert region, where there is little or minimal vegetation. Each person is challenged to reach the Lava Tower, which is 90 meters and approximately 4,640 meters tall volcanic plug that is extremely vital. Gaining and spending time at this height is needed to acclimatize. After the tower, you will have lunch, which will provide a stark contrast to the views of the majestic Barranco Valley. You descend approximately 680 meters, which satisfies the principle of “climb high, sleep low”. Barranco Camp is also specialized and important because the walls that surround this region are tall, and guide plants and trees, such as the Great Barranco Walls, and unique giant senecio plants surround the camp.

From the top, you can enjoy stellar views while still being guided. From here on, the trail leads you through a series of ridges and valleys. You will dip into the Karanga Valley and finally make the push to Barafu Camp. It is a dry and dusty landscape. You will reach Barafu Camp, which is in the afternoon. It is the camp located on exposed ridges, meaning “ice” in Swahili. This is where you will rest, have your early supper, and ready yourself for the dusk dinner, which is meant for the peak of the mountain.

Distance: 9 km / 6 miles.
Altitude Gain: 680m / 2,230ft.
Zone: Alpine Desert.
Accommodation: Tents at Barafu Camp.

Before the summit, breakfast is quickly eaten before the last portion of the summit is tackled. The last stretch is done while powering through darkness. Expectations for this part of the trek should be realistic, since it is the most challenging portion of the experience in every way imaginable. Nicky slips into dimensions of time warps while moving on a trail that consists of scree. “Pole, pole” the locals say. Five to seven hours later, Nicky is poised, with his chest just bursting to sing to Stella. There’s, of course, the orange-tinted warmth of a sun that rises to say that he made it. The view is glorious on the way; there is something new to witness for the always closed eyes of Nicky. One more part is left, an hour at Uhuru while singing minute to minute. The destruction of everything beautiful and the delay of this super important summit are quickly fading into darkness. There is a Barafu Camp below the clouds he can see, calling him for a quick rest. The call of rest is strong, but beyond it, discovering the upper part of the rainforest is Nicky's maximum desire.
Hiking Time: 11-15 hours.

While descending, you will be able to enjoy the beauty of the rainforest. Once you sign in, you get to enjoy your official summit certificate. The driver is already waiting to take you to the hotel in Arusha where you will get to enjoy a warm shower followed by a crowded dinner to celebrate.
