Trekking Mount Kilimanjaro Marangu Route affectionately known as the “Coca-Cola route”, Marangu used to be the most popular route to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, however it has been overtaken by Machame route in terms of popularity . Marangu popularity is partly due to the fact that the Marangu is the least expensive route, but more so, perhaps the fact that it is possible to do the Marangu route in 5 days, but to maximize your chance of summiting we recommend an extra day for acclimatization.

The Marangu route commonly referred to as “coca cola” route is the shortest route up and down Kilimanjaro, but when it comes to high altitude mountaineering a shorter route is not the best as you need more days for acclimatization which will maximize your chances of reaching the peak. Our years of experience in promoting Kilimanjaro Adventure trips has taught us that the shorter 7 day package (5 days on Kilimanjaro + 2 days travelling) is not enough for a normal person to acclimatize, that is why Kilitop and Safaris DO NOT promote the shorter trip as what is offered by other novice operators.
